Football enthusiasts in and out of the country have been encouraged to select at least 23 players, comprised of foreign and local based, and send the listing to the local football governing house, the Liberia Football Association (LFA), as a way of participating in the selection process of the senior Lone Star.
The group under the banner “The Road to 2012” in a press release dated Monday, August 16, 2010, is urging Liberians to take the initiative of getting involve in the senior Lone Star team, as compare to other nationals in Africa and the rest of the world.
The group believes, if Liberians can rally around the national team, by using the print and electronic media, to suggest the best players of their choice, patterns of playing, amongst others, this will guide the two-month old contracted Hungarian coach, Bertalan Bicskei, on how to his selection of players.
The group also believes that Coach Bicskei will also be aware that Liberians desire qualification and for the red-white-&-blue flag to be hoisted for the third time in continental football fiesta.
The press release, which was signed by Darius T. King as Secretary and Siah Moses as President, is urging Liberians to cultivate the credence that the Lone Star team belongs to every Liberian.
It was an overwhelming yes by 88% of the spectators, who went at the 4-day Road-to-2012 Tournament, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia that the Senior Lone Star team, under Coach Bertalan Bicskei, will qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
The spectators, who were mainly youth, told our reporter last week, that the cream of selected local based and foreign based players who are in the country for trials for subsequent placement in the national team, is a welcomed footing and believed that the “best’ will be selected to pull the magic for Liberia’s third qualification.
The survey was conducted from Wednesday, August 11 to Friday, August 13, 2010, at the ATS.
The youth indicated that the ’satisfactorily’ exhibitions of the foreign based, who were categorized into two groups: Asian All Stars and Foreign Based amid the local based as well as former Lone Star players, they are hopeful of an “excellent selection.”
Daniel Weah, a keen follower of the game and is optimistic of Liberia’s qualification, cautioned Coach Bertalan Bicskei, to include the quartet; Dulee Johnson, Isaac Pupo, Francis ‘Grandpa’ Doe and Alex Nimely in the final listing.
